Watchdog drafts rules of traffic routing in case of threat to Runet

MOSCOW, Jun 18 (PRIME) -- The Russian communications service has prepared a draft order describing the rules of traffic routing in case of centralized control of the public network, according to the document released late on Monday on the portal of legal regulations.

Under the law on sustainable functioning of the Runet, the local segment of the Internet, centralized control over the public network can be done by the communications watchdog in case of a threat to reliability, security or integrity of functioning of the Internet and the public network in the country.

The traffic routing rules must be followed by connection operators, owners or other owners of technological connection networks, points of traffic exchange, connection lines crossing the country’s border, for messages sent or received by a user of connection services on the territory of Russia.

The rules ban traffic flow via networks outside the country’s territory with the exception made for the exclave Kaliningrad Region, embassies, consulates, and the country’s representatives abroad, among others.
